Bad writing 101

Today, were looking at bad writing that makes us appreciate the good stuff. 

I decided to try reading George R.R. Martin’s “A Game of Thrones.” I’d previously tried to read one of his other novels and put it down. It was dreck. 

It’s clear the man has a brilliant imagination. He comes up with great characters. He invents great plots. 

Then you get this. 

That’s not just sophomoric, it’s the laziest of writing. 

The real problem is that it comes close to ruining a great scene.  

Every day, The Southpaw finds a sentence that makes him think or laugh. It can come from a song, a poem, a book, a newspaper article. It’s a daily celebration of our odd – and yet beautiful – language. Find other Sentences of the Day.
