For a brief time one of my cool responsibilities at the York Daily Record included reading wire stories to find interesting ones that would make it into the paper or on the website.
I’d often find bizarre stories about different state legislatures that just didn’t make the cut. It was during this time that I realized just how insane Florida and North Carolina were.
Well, tonight I caught a wire story out of Wyoming, whose senate just voted against repealing the state’s death penalty.
The story featured quite the theological lesson from one Lynn Hutchings. Here’s her reason for voting in support of state-sponsored murder.
The greatest man who ever lived died via the death penalty for you and me,” she said. “I’m grateful to him for our future hope because of this. Governments were instituted to execute justice. If it wasn’t for Jesus dying via the death penalty, we would all have no hope.
That sound you hear is Thomas Aquinas spinning in his grave.
