I know, I know! The decade doesn’t really end for another year. But culturally, we’re stupid and end it now.
So here are my picks for the best movies of the decade. Now, I haven’t seen as many movies in recent years because of having three kids. And I’m not going to lie: part of my New Year’s Resolution is to see: “La La Land,” “Birdman,” “Once Upon a Time in Holywood,” and “Brooklyn.” Also, I think it’s absolute crap that Hollywood all but ignores popular films. Yes, some popular films are trash. But some popular flicks have interesting ways of telling stories. Hell, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has some interesting storytelling techniques. Old fogies like Martin Scorcese can pound sand about tentpole films. Rain Johnson, Ava DuVernay and Taika Waititi are fresh, fun and gripping storytellers. Each has done a blockbuster.
Anyway, without further adieu, Herr is my list:
Best movies of the decade
Beasts of the Southern Wild
Toy Story 3
Life of Pi
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
The Big Short
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
End of Watch
Grand Budapest Hotel
